FAQs

Q:  Can I donate to PoleFlyers?
A: Yes!  As a 501c3 non-profit corporation, all of your donations are
completely tax deductible.  What a great way to give back to the
community!  Contact Kelly at poleflyers@gmail.com or 717-649-3646 for more information.

Q: Why is it so expensive?
A: Insurance, poles, and other equipment are not cheap.  PoleFlyers
coaches are volunteers, therefore all money collected from athletes
goes right back to them in the form of more poles, better equipment,
and so forth.

Q: I’m not in high school anymore.  Can I still join PoleFlyers?
A: Absolutely.  PoleFlyers is open to former vaulters or newcomers of all ages.

Q: Why should my child train with Pole Flyers and not with his/her high school?
A:
PoleFlyers is a club organization that provides training and
facilities that may not be available for your child through the public
or private school system.  Many area high schools simply do not have
any qualified instructors for pole vaulting, leaving the students to
go it alone or simple do without. Pole vaulting without expert
supervision IS NOT EVER RECOMMENDED and should not be encouraged by
any parent.  PoleFlyers provides an indoor facility to supplement the
numerous outdoor facilities available in the area.

Q:  How safe is pole vaulting?
A: As with many other sports that kids participate in such as
gymnastics or football, there is risk associated with pole vaulting.
It can be a dangerous sport; however, good coaching can minimize many
potential risks.  At PoleFlyers, safety is our number one concern.  We
strive to have a safe practice environment and we work with
individuals so no one is pushed beyond their limits. We adhere to
prevailing standards of safety. However, sometimes accidents still do
occur.

Q: Will my child be able to compete in regular high school events and
be on his/her high school track & field team?

A: Participating in PoleFlyers will not hinder your child’s
participation in normal high school athletics in any way.  We strive
to be a supplemental resource to existing public resources. While we
may host invitational meets, these will not conflict with high school
events. PoleFlyers members are also eligible to participate in Junior
Olympics, open, and Masters competitions held by USATF.

Q: Do I have to call ahead to schedule a trial session?

A: No, feel free to come by a practice anytime to observe or do a free trial session.  However, occasionally we cancel practices on short notice, especially during the summer and around holidays, so it doesn’t hurt to check before you come.  You can email kelly@poleflyers.com with questions.

Q: Do I have to be a PoleFlyers member to receive the newsletter?

A: No, email kelly@poleflyers.com if you would like to be added to the mailing list.  For the most up-to-date information, we recommend being on our mailing list and/or “liking” us on FaceBook.
